  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 tsp cornstarch (for a thicker filling)

For the crisp topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup brown sugar (light or dark)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch (or similar) baking dish.

  2. Prepare the apple filling:

    • In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch.

    • Spread evenly in the baking dish.

  3. Make the crisp topping:

    • In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon.

    • Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your fingers until crumbly and coarse.

  4. Assemble:

    • Sprinkle topping evenly over the apple mixture.

  5. Bake:
