Beef and Pepper Rice Bowl

Ingredients (2 servings)

  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, jasmine, or brown)
  • 8 oz (225g) thinly sliced beef (sirloin, flank, or shaved beef)
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced (any color)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced (optional)
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but great)
  • 1–2 tsp brown sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or more to taste)
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce:
    Combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, sesame oil, black pepper, and chili flakes in a small bowl.
  2. Cook the beef:
    • Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add beef and cook until browned (2–3 minutes).
    • Remove beef and set aside.
  3. Cook the vegetables:
    • In the same pan, add onions and bell peppers.
    • Sauté until slightly softened (3–4 minutes).
    • Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Combine everything:
    • Return the beef to the pan.
    • Pour the sauce over and stir for 1–2 minutes until glossy and heated through.
  5. Assemble the bowls:
    • Scoop rice into bowls.
    • Top with beef and pepper mixture.
    • Add green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Tips & Variations

  • Add mushrooms, broccoli, or snap peas for extra veggies.
  • Swap beef for chicken, pork, or tofu.
  • Add a fried egg on top for richness.
  • Use cracked black pepper generously for a more “peppery” version.
