Breadsticks

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for homemade breadsticks — soft, buttery, and perfect for dipping in marinara, soup, or just eating warm from the oven. 🥖✨


🧈 Soft Garlic Breadsticks

📋 Ingredients (makes about 12 breadsticks):

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)

For the topping:

  • 2 tbsp melted butter

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • Optional: parsley, grated Parmesan


👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Activate the yeast

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the dough

  • Stir in olive oil, salt, and flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

3. Knead the dough

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • (Or use a stand mixer with the dough hook.)

4. First rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 45–60 minutes until doubled.

5. Shape the breadsticks

  • Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a 6–8 inch rope and place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Second rise

  • Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.

7. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes or until lightly golden.

8. Brush with butter topping

  • While warm, brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and salt.

  • Sprinkle with parsley or Parmesan if desired.


🧄 Serving Suggestions:

  • With marinara or Alfredo sauce

  • Alongside soups, chili, or salad

  • Split in half for mini sandwich subs
