Broccoli apple slaw

Posted on October 13, 2025 by Admin

Broccoli Apple Slaw is crisp, tangy, a little sweet, and incredibly refreshing — a perfect side for BBQs, sandwiches, or lighter meals. It combines crunchy veggies, juicy apples, and a creamy dressing that ties it all together.

Here’s a go-to Broccoli Apple Slaw recipe that’s easy to prep and keeps well!

🥗 Broccoli Apple Slaw

🕒 Ready in 15–20 minutes

🍽️ Serves: 6–8 as a side

🧊 Keeps 2–3 days in the fridge

🧂 Ingredients

🥦 For the slaw:

  • 4 cups broccoli slaw mix (store-bought, or shredded broccoli stems, carrots, and red cabbage)

  • 1 large crisp apple, julienned or diced (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji work well)

  • ½ cup shredded red cabbage (optional for color)

  • ¼ cup dried cranberries or raisins

  • ¼ cup toasted sunflower seeds or slivered almonds

  • 2–3 green onions, sliced thin

  • Optional: ½ cup grated carrot (if not in slaw mix)

🥣 For the dressing:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise (or half mayo, half plain Greek yogurt for a lighter option)

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

  • 1–2 tsp honey or maple syrup (adjust for sweetness)

  • ½ tsp Dijon mustard (optional for depth)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the dressing:
In a small bowl, whisk together mayo, vinegar, honey, mustard (if using), and a pinch of salt & pepper. Adjust sweetness and tang to taste.

  2. Assemble the slaw:
In a large mixing bowl, toss together the broccoli slaw mix, chopped apple, cranberries, sunflower seeds, and green onions.

  3. Combine:
Pour the dressing over the slaw and toss to coat evenly.

  4. Chill (optional):
Let sit for 10–15 minutes before serving for best flavor and texture. Can be made up to a few hours ahead.

🌿 Variations

  • Add chopped fresh herbs (parsley, dill, or mint)

  • Add cooked, crumbled bacon for a smoky touch

  • Swap cranberries for chopped dates, pomegranate seeds, or golden raisins

  • Make it vegan with vegan mayo and maple syrup

🧊 Storage Tips

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

  • Best enjoyed within 1–2 days — after that, apples may brown and dressing thins a bit.
