Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup

  • ½ cup milk

  • 2 tbsp butter or oil

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat and Prepare

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish


2️⃣ Cook the Beef

  1. Heat butter/oil in a skillet over medium heat

  2. Sauté onions until soft, add garlic and cook 30 sec

  3. Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned

  4. Drain excess fat


3️⃣ Make the Creamy Sauce

  1. In a bowl, mix soup + milk + 1 cup shredded cheese

  2. Stir into the cooked beef mixture


4️⃣ Layer the Casserole

  1. Spread half of the potato slices in the bottom of the dish

  2. Pour half of the beef mixture over potatoes

  3. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and beef mixture

  4. Sprinkle extra cheese on top

  5. Optional: dust with paprika or fresh herbs


5️⃣ Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake 35–40 minutes

  • Remove foil and bake 10–15 minutes more until cheese is golden and potatoes are tender
