🌭 Chili Cheese Dog Boats Recipe
🧂 Ingredients:
-
6 hoagie rolls or large hot dog buns
-
6 hot dogs
-
1–1½ cups prepared chili (canned or homemade)
-
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend like cheddar-jack)
-
2 tbsp butter (optional, for brushing)
-
1 tsp garlic powder or minced garlic (optional)
-
Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Prep the buns:
-
Cut a “boat” shape out of the top of each hoagie roll, removing some of the inside bread to make room for fillings.
-
Optional: Lightly toast the insides in the oven for 5–6 minutes so they don’t get soggy later.
-
-
Cook the hot dogs:
-
Boil, grill, or pan-fry the hot dogs until heated through.
-
-
Assemble the boats:
-
Place a hot dog in each bun.
-
Spoon about 2–3 tablespoons of chili over each hot dog.
-
Sprinkle generously with shredded cheese.
-
-
Bake:
-
Place the boats on a baking sheet.
-
Bake in the oven for 10–12 minutes, or until cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
-
-
Optional butter topping:
-
Mix melted butter with garlic powder and brush the tops and sides of the buns before or after baking for extra flavor.
-
-
Garnish and serve:
-
Top with chopped green onions, parsley, or even jalapeños for a kick.
-
🔄 Variations:
-
Spicy: Add sliced jalapeños or spicy chili.
-
Bacon chili dogs: Add crumbled bacon on top before baking.
-
Cheese lovers: Use a mix of mozzarella, pepper jack, and cheddar.
