crispy fried mozzarella sticks

Posted on October 20, 2025 by Admin
Crispy Fried Mozzarella Sticks are the ultimate cheesy snack — golden and crunchy on the outside, with gooey, stretchy melted mozzarella on the inside. They’re easy to make at home and taste way better than anything frozen or from a drive-thru.

🧀 Crispy Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Makes: 16 sticks | Prep Time: 15 mins (plus freeze time) | Cook Time: 3–4 mins per batch

🛒 Ingredients:

  • 16 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or a block of mozzarella, cut into 3-inch sticks)

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¼ cup milk

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs (or plain + Italian seasoning)

  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch – optional)

  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Vegetable oil for frying

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Prep the Breading Station:

Set up 3 shallow bowls:

  • Bowl 1: flour + a little salt & pepper

  • Bowl 2: eggs + milk (whisked)

  • Bowl 3: breadcrumbs + garlic powder + optional panko

2. Bread the Cheese Sticks:

  • Dip each cheese stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture.

  • For extra crunch and sealing: repeat the egg + breadcrumbs step for a second coat.

  • Place all coated sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour (this prevents cheese from leaking during frying).

3. Fry:

  • Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep skillet or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).

  • Fry mozzarella sticks in small batches for 2–3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.

  • Remove with tongs or a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

4. Serve:

  • Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce, ranch, or spicy aioli.

🔄 Tips & Variations:

  • Air Fryer version? Yes! Spray breaded sticks with oil and air fry at 400°F for 6–8 minutes.

  • Add Parmesan cheese to the breadcrumb mix for even more flavor.

  • Freeze extras (uncooked) and fry straight from frozen when ready.

  • Want to spice it up? Add a pinch of cayenne or chili flakes to the breadcrumb mixture.

Let me know if you’d like a baked version, a gluten-free option, or a stuffed twist (like mozzarella + pepperoni)!
