🧄🧀 Cumin Cheese Buns
Ingredients:
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
2 tsp active dry yeast
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tsp sugar
-
1 tsp ground cumin seeds (or toasted cumin seeds for more flavor)
-
1 cup warm milk (or water)
-
2 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter)
-
1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
-
Optional: extra cumin seeds or sesame seeds for topping
Instructions:
1. Activate Yeast:
-
In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
2. Make Dough:
-
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and ground cumin.
-
Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix and knead until a soft, elastic dough forms (about 8-10 minutes).
3. First Rise:
-
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
4. Shape Buns:
-
Punch down the dough and divide into 10–12 equal pieces.
-
Flatten each piece, add a spoonful of grated cheese in the center, and fold the dough over to seal. Shape into buns.
5. Second Rise:
-
Place buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
-
Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
6. Bake:
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Optional: brush buns with milk or egg wash and sprinkle cumin or sesame seeds on top.
-
Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown.
7. Serve:
-
Let cool slightly before serving warm.
Tips:
-
Use strong cheddar or a melting cheese like mozzarella for best texture.
-
Toast cumin seeds beforehand for extra aroma.
-
These buns freeze well — just reheat before serving.
