Delicious Apple Cake

🍏 Old-Fashioned Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional)

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • 1 ½ cups sugar

  • 3 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 2–3 medium; Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work great)

  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

For the glaze (optional but amazing):

  • ¼ cup butter

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan (or a Bundt pan for a fancier look).

  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  3. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.

  4. Combine: Stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined — the batter will be thick.

  5. Fold in apples (and nuts, if using).

  6. Spread batter evenly in the pan.

  7. Bake 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.


🍯 Optional Brown Sugar Glaze

  1. In a small saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and milk.

  2. Bring to a gentle boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.

  3. Stir in vanilla and pour warm glaze over the hot cake.

  4. Let it soak in — it’ll form a shiny, caramel-like topping.
