freshly baked cheese buns or bread rolls

Posted on October 29, 2025 by Admin

Yum 😍 — freshly baked cheese buns (aka cheesy bread rolls) are soft, golden, and stuffed or topped with melted cheese. Perfect for breakfast, sandwiches, or alongside soup or pasta. 🧀🥖

Here’s a simple, bakery-style recipe you can make at home:

🧀 Freshly Baked Cheese Buns (or Bread Rolls)

Makes: 10–12 buns

Prep Time: 20 min | Rise Time: 1½–2 hours | Bake Time: 20–25 min

🧂Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 3 tbsp butter, softened

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 – 3½ cups all-purpose flour

For the cheese filling/topping:

  • 1½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing)

  • Optional: sprinkle of garlic powder, parsley, or chili flakes

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast:
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Make the dough:
Add softened butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead:
Knead on a lightly floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
(If using a stand mixer, knead on medium speed for about 5 minutes.)

  4. First rise:
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Shape the buns:
Punch down dough and divide into 10–12 equal pieces.

    • For filled buns: Flatten each piece slightly, add a tablespoon of cheese in the center, pinch to seal, and roll into a ball.

    • For cheesy-topped rolls: Roll into balls, place on baking sheet, and sprinkle cheese on top.

  6. Second rise:
Place shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes, until puffy.

  7. Bake:
    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.

  8. Finish:
Brush hot buns with melted butter and sprinkle with herbs or extra cheese if desired.

  9. Serve warm — soft, cheesy, and irresistible! 😋

💡 Tips & Variations

  • Extra cheesy: Mix some cream cheese or shredded mozzarella into the dough itself.

  • Garlic cheese buns: Mix butter, minced garlic, and herbs, then brush on before baking.

  • Sweet & savory twist: Add a bit of sugar and cream cheese for a bakery-style cheesy roll.

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
