🥘 Fried Cabbage with Shrimp, Sausage & Bacon

🍽 Serves: 4

⏱ Total Time: 35–40 minutes

(Quick prep, fast cook)

🛒 Ingredients:

  • 4–6 slices bacon, chopped

  • ½ lb smoked sausage (andouille or kielbasa), sliced

  • ½ lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

  • Splash of chicken broth, hot sauce, or apple cider vinegar (optional, for depth)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Cook the bacon:

  • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy.

  • Remove bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.

2. Sauté the sausage:

  • In the same skillet, add sliced sausage. Sear for 3–4 minutes until browned.

  • Remove and set aside with the bacon.

3. Cook the shrimp:

  • Add shrimp to the skillet (add a bit of butter if dry).

  • Cook 1–2 minutes per side, just until pink and opaque. Remove and set aside.

4. Sauté the onions & garlic:

  • Add sliced onion to the pan and cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes.

  • Stir in garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.

5. Fry the cabbage:

  • Add chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir well to coat in drippings.

  • Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and optional red pepper flakes.

  • Cook 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly caramelized.

  • Add a splash of broth or vinegar if needed to deglaze.

6. Combine everything:

  • Return shrimp, sausage, and bacon to the pan.

  • Toss together and cook for another 2–3 minutes to heat through and let flavors meld.

7. Serve hot, optionally with:

  • Cornbread

  • Rice

  • A squeeze of lemon or hot sauce on top

✅ Tips & Variations:

  • Swap shrimp for chicken or go meatless with just sausage & cabbage.

  • Use red cabbage or a mix for color.

  • Make it low-carb or keto-friendly — no changes needed!

  • Want it spicy? Add sliced jalapeños or extra cayenne.
