  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup warm milk (more if needed)

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

  • Toppings: powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or honey


Instructions

  1. Make the dough:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

    • Cut in the butter using your fingers or a fork until crumbly.

    • Gradually add warm milk, mixing until a soft dough forms.

    • Knead gently for 1–2 minutes until smooth.

  2. Rest:

    • Cover and let rest for 15–20 minutes (helps the dough relax and fry evenly).

  3. Shape:

    • Divide dough into small balls (golf ball size).

    • Roll each into a flat round about ¼ inch thick.

  4. Fry:

    • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a heavy pan to 350°F (175°C).

    • Fry each piece 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed.

    • Remove with tongs and drain on paper towels.

  5. Top & serve:

    • While warm, dust with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or drizzle with honey or chocolate sauce.


💡 Flavor Variations

  • Cinnamon sugar twist: Mix ½ cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon and toss warm pastries in it.

  • Beignet style: Cut dough into squares and dust heavily with powdered sugar.

  • Churro-style: Pipe dough into strips, fry, and roll in cinnamon sugar.

  • Savory version: Skip sugar in the dough and top with garlic butter or cheese.
