Posted on April 10, 2026 by Admin

Here’s how to make Frozen Potato Hash Brown Patties at home—crispy outside, soft inside, and perfect for freezing and using anytime.

🥔 Frozen Hash Brown Patties

🧾 Ingredients

  • 3–4 large potatoes (Russet or any starchy potatoes)
  • 1 small onion (optional, finely grated)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
  • 1 tbsp oil or melted butter

🥣 Instructions

1. Prep the potatoes

  • Peel and grate the potatoes.
  • Immediately place them in cold water to remove excess starch.

2. Parboil (important step)

  • Drain potatoes and boil them for 2–3 minutes only (don’t fully cook).
  • Drain and let them cool completely.

3. Remove moisture

  • Squeeze out as much water as possible using a clean cloth or towel—this step is key for crispiness.

4. Mix

  • In a bowl, combine potatoes, onion (optional), salt, pepper, cornflour, and oil.
  • Mix until it holds together.

5. Shape patties

  • Take small portions and shape into flat oval or round patties.

6. Freeze

  • Place patties on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Freeze until solid (2–3 hours), then transfer to a freezer bag.

🍳 How to Cook from Frozen

Pan Fry (best method)

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat
  • Cook frozen patties for 4–5 minutes per side until golden and crispy

Air Fryer

  • 180°C for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway

Oven

  • 200°C for 20–25 minutes, flipping once

💡 Tips for Perfect Hash Browns

  • Dry potatoes thoroughly—this makes them crispy
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying
  • Add a pinch of paprika or garlic powder for extra flavor
  • You can add shredded cheese for a richer version
