Garbage Bread

Posted on October 14, 2025 by Admin
Garbage Bread may have a messy name, but it’s pure comfort food brilliance. 🧀🥖🔥
It’s basically a stuffed bread roll packed with whatever fillings you love — cheeseburger, pepperoni, taco meat, Philly cheesesteak, breakfast sausage, you name it. Think of it as a giant hot pocket or a rolled-up sandwich baked to golden perfection.

Here’s a classic customizable recipe to get you started:

🥖 Garbage Bread (Stuffed Stromboli-Style)

🍽️ Serves: 6–8

🕒 Prep: 20 min | Bake: 25–30 min

🌡️ Oven Temp: 400°F (200°C)

🧂 Basic Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough or refrigerated French bread dough

  • 1 lb filling of your choice (see ideas below)

  • 1–2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, provolone, etc.)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash — optional)

  • 1 tbsp butter or oil (optional, for brushing)

  • Optional: seasoning for topping (garlic powder, sesame seeds, parsley, etc.)

🔄 Filling Ideas (Mix & Match)

🧀 Cheeseburger Garbage Bread

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • ½ onion, diced

  • ¼ cup ketchup + mustard

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar

  • Pickles (optional, chopped)

🍕 Pepperoni Pizza Bread

  • ½ cup marinara sauce

  • Pepperoni slices

  • Mozzarella + provolone

  • Italian seasoning

🌮 Taco Style

  • Taco-seasoned beef or chicken

  • Black beans or corn

  • Shredded cheddar or Mexican blend

  • Hot sauce or salsa (not too runny!)

🥩 Philly Cheesesteak

  • Thin-sliced steak or deli roast beef

  • Sautéed onions and peppers

  • Provolone or American cheese

🍳 Breakfast Garbage Bread

  • Scrambled eggs

  • Cooked sausage or bacon

  • Shredded cheese

  • Hash browns or cooked potatoes

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C)

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare filling

Cook meat and any veggies fully. Drain off grease or moisture. Cool slightly before adding cheese.

3. Roll out the dough

On a floured surface, roll pizza dough into a large rectangle (roughly 10×16 inches).

4. Layer the filling

Spread your filling down the center, leaving a 1–2 inch border all around. Top with cheese.

5. Roll it up

Fold in the sides, then roll up jelly-roll style, sealing edges well. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.

6. Brush & season

Brush with egg wash or butter/oil. Sprinkle with garlic powder, sesame seeds, or parmesan if desired.

7. Bake

Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.

🧀 Serving Ideas

  • Slice into thick rounds

  • Serve with dipping sauces:

    • Marinara

    • Ranch

    • Spicy mayo

    • BBQ or mustard

🧊 Storage & Make-Ahead

  • Fridge: Store slices up to 3 days

  • Reheat: Oven or toaster oven preferred for crispiness

  • Freeze: Wrap tightly and freeze whole or in slices (reheat at 375°F for 15–20 min)
