ham and cheese puff

Posted on October 20, 2025 by Admin
A Ham and Cheese Puff is a golden, flaky, and savory pastry perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a snack. Made with puff pastry and just a few simple ingredients, it’s a crowd-pleaser you can whip up quickly — or prep ahead for entertaining.

🧀🥓 Ham and Cheese Puff Pastries

📋 Ingredients (Makes 6–8 puffs)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

  • 1/2 cup cooked ham, diced or thinly sliced

  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup shredded or sliced cheese (Swiss, cheddar, Gruyère, or mozzarella all work)

  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for a tangy kick)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp milk or water (to mix with egg)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat oven

Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare puff pastry

  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth creases.

  • Cut into 6 or 8 equal squares or rectangles, depending on desired size.

3. Assemble the puffs

  • If using, spread a small amount of Dijon mustard in the center of each square.

  • Add a layer of cheese, then a layer of ham.

  • Be sure to leave a border around the edges so they can seal.

4. Seal the puffs

  • Fold each square into a triangle or rectangle (whatever shape you prefer).

  • Press the edges with a fork to seal.

  • Cut a small slit in the top for steam to escape.

5. Brush with egg wash

  • Beat the egg with 1 tbsp water or milk.

  • Brush over the tops of the pastries for a shiny, golden finish.

6. Bake

  • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and deep golden brown.

7. Cool and serve

  • Let cool slightly before serving.

  • Best enjoyed warm, but also great at room temperature.

🥄 Tips & Variations

  • Add-ins: Sprinkle in chopped chives, caramelized onions, or spinach for more flavor.

  • Mini version: Cut smaller squares for appetizer-sized bites.

  • Breakfast version: Add a bit of scrambled egg to the filling.

  • Freezer-friendly: Assemble and freeze before baking. Bake from frozen, adding 5–7 extra minutes.
