🧀🥓 Ham and Cheese Puff Pastries
📋 Ingredients (Makes 6–8 puffs)
-
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
-
1/2 cup cooked ham, diced or thinly sliced
-
1/2 to 3/4 cup shredded or sliced cheese (Swiss, cheddar, Gruyère, or mozzarella all work)
-
1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for a tangy kick)
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
-
1 tbsp milk or water (to mix with egg)
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Preheat oven
Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare puff pastry
-
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth creases.
-
Cut into 6 or 8 equal squares or rectangles, depending on desired size.
3. Assemble the puffs
-
If using, spread a small amount of Dijon mustard in the center of each square.
-
Add a layer of cheese, then a layer of ham.
-
Be sure to leave a border around the edges so they can seal.
4. Seal the puffs
-
Fold each square into a triangle or rectangle (whatever shape you prefer).
-
Press the edges with a fork to seal.
-
Cut a small slit in the top for steam to escape.
5. Brush with egg wash
-
Beat the egg with 1 tbsp water or milk.
-
Brush over the tops of the pastries for a shiny, golden finish.
6. Bake
-
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until puffed and deep golden brown.
7. Cool and serve
-
Let cool slightly before serving.
-
Best enjoyed warm, but also great at room temperature.
