Here’s a tasty, comforting Hamburger Potato Casserole recipe — layers of ground beef, creamy potatoes, cheese, and flavorful seasonings baked to perfection!


🥔🍔 Hamburger Potato Casserole

Serves: 6
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 45–50 min
Total Time: ~1 hour


🧂 Ingredients:

  • 1½ lbs ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 3 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 3 medium potatoes)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter


👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Preheat oven:

  • Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook beef & onion:

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  • Add ground beef and diced onion. Cook until beef is browned and onion is softened. Drain excess fat.

  • Season with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine.

3. Mix creamy sauce:

  • In a bowl, combine cream soup, sour cream, and half of the shredded cheese.

4. Assemble casserole:

  • Spread half the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.

  • Layer half the beef mixture over potatoes.

  • Spread half the creamy sauce over beef.

  • Repeat layers: remaining potatoes, beef, and creamy sauce.

  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly on top.

5. Bake:

  • Cover tightly with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

  • Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and potatoes are tender.

6. Serve:

  • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.


🍽️ Serving Tips:

  • Serve with a fresh green salad or steamed veggies for a balanced meal.

  • Add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms to beef for extra flavor and veggies.

  • Swap cream of mushroom for cream of chicken for a different twist.
