Hamburger Steak Bake

Posted on October 14, 2025 by Admin
Hamburger Steak Bake is comfort food at its finest — juicy seasoned beef patties baked in a savory gravy, often with onions and maybe mushrooms, all nestled into a casserole-style dish. It’s like Salisbury steak meets meatloaf, baked together for easy cleanup and full flavor.

Here’s a hearty, satisfying version:

🍖 Hamburger Steak Bake (Oven-Baked Salisbury Steak)

🕒 Prep: 15 min | Bake: 45–50 min

🍽️ Serves: 4–6

🧂 Ingredients

For the hamburger steaks:

  • 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 works great)

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the gravy:

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of onion/chicken)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • Optional: 1 cup sliced mushrooms

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)

2. Make the hamburger patties

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  • Form into 4–6 oval patties, and place them in a lightly greased 9×13″ baking dish.

3. Sear the patties (optional but adds flavor)

  • Brown the patties in a skillet for 2–3 minutes per side. They don’t need to cook through — just get color. Then place back in the baking dish.

4. Mix the gravy

  • In a bowl, stir together the cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and sliced onions (and mushrooms if using).

5. Assemble & bake

  • Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the patties.

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  • Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, or until bubbly and the patties are cooked through (internal temp should be 160°F).

6. Serve

  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles, and don’t forget the gravy!

🍽️ Optional Add-ins

  • Add sliced potatoes or green beans directly to the baking dish for a one-pan meal.

  • Stir in a spoonful of sour cream or cream cheese to the gravy for a richer finish.

  • Top with a little cheddar in the last 5 minutes if you like it cheesy.
