🍬 Homemade Bubble Gum
🍽️ Makes: About 15 pieces
⏱️ Time: 30–40 minutes
🛒 Ingredients:
-
1/3 cup gum base (can be found online or at candy supply stores)
-
1/2 cup powdered sugar, plus more for kneading
-
2 tbsp corn syrup
-
1 tsp glycerin (for chewiness – also online or in baking sections)
-
1/8 tsp citric acid (optional – adds a slight tang)
-
A few drops of bubble gum flavoring (or any other flavor you like)
-
Food coloring (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Prep your station:
-
Line a surface with parchment paper and dust it with powdered sugar.
-
Have all ingredients ready to go — gum base hardens quickly once melted.
2. Melt the gum base:
-
In a microwave-safe bowl, add gum base, corn syrup, glycerin, and citric acid (if using).
-
Microwave in 15–20 second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and stretchy (usually about 1 minute total).
🔥 Use caution — it’s hot and sticky!
3. Add flavor & color:
-
Quickly stir in your flavoring and food coloring. Mix well.
4. Knead with sugar:
-
Pour melted mixture onto your prepared surface.
-
Gradually knead in powdered sugar until it becomes smooth, firm, and pliable (like playdough). This may take a few minutes and can get messy — keep adding sugar to keep it workable.
5. Shape the gum:
-
Roll into a log and cut into small pieces or shape however you like.
-
Wrap each piece in wax paper or parchment to keep them fresh.
💡 Tips:
-
Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
-
Want fruit punch, mint, or watermelon gum? Just swap the flavoring!
-
For bigger bubbles, knead the gum extra well to distribute the sugar evenly.
