Homemade hamburger peppers and onion gyros

Here’s a delicious, homemade gyro-style recipe using hamburger, peppers, and onions—super easy and flavorful:


🍔 Homemade Hamburger, Peppers & Onion Gyros

Ingredients (serves 2–3)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (hamburger)

  • 1–2 bell peppers, sliced thinly

  • 1 onion, sliced thinly

  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Pita bread, flatbreads, or wraps

  • Optional toppings: tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese


Instructions

  1. Cook the vegetables

    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Add sliced onions and bell peppers.

    • Sauté for 5–7 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized.

    • Remove from the pan and set aside.

  2. Cook the beef

    • In the same skillet, add the ground beef.

    • Season with garlic powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.

    • Cook until browned and fully cooked (about 7–10 minutes).

  3. Combine

    • Mix the sautéed peppers and onions with the beef in the pan for 1–2 minutes to combine flavors.

  4. Assemble gyros

    • Warm your pita or flatbread.

    • Add a generous portion of the beef and veggie mixture.

    • Top with tzatziki, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and/or feta cheese if desired.

  5. Serve immediately

    • Fold or roll the pita and enjoy your homemade gyro!


Tips

  • Use different colored peppers for more flavor and color.

  • You can add a dash of hot sauce or chili flakes if you like it spicy.

  • For extra authentic flavor, add lemon juice or a sprinkle of sumac on top.
