Ingredients

  • ½ cup green olives, sliced

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional, adds warmth)

  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp olive oil


Instructions

1. Cook the beef

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

  • Drain excess fat if necessary.


2. Sauté the vegetables

  • Add onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet.

  • Cook 3–5 minutes until softened and fragrant.


3. Add tomato and seasonings

  • Stir in tomato sauce (and diced fresh tomato, if using).

  • Add cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.

  • Simmer 5–7 minutes to let flavors meld.


4. Add finishing touches

  • Stir in olives and raisins.

  • Simmer another 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.


5. Serve

  • Serve hot over white rice, inside tacos, or in empanadas.

  • Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.

  • For extra depth, add a splash of red wine or beef broth while simmering.

  • Adjust sweetness by increasing or reducing raisins.

  • You can also add potatoes or carrots, diced small, for a heartier picadillo.
