🍖 Homemade Honey Baked Ham (Copycat Style)
📝 Ingredients:
For the ham:
-
1 fully cooked bone-in spiral ham (7 to 10 lbs)
-
1/2 cup water or apple juice (for baking dish)
For the honey glaze:
-
1/2 cup honey
-
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
-
1/4 cup granulated sugar
-
2 tbsp Dijon mustard or yellow mustard
-
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or orange juice
-
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1/4 tsp ground cloves
-
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
-
Optional: pinch of cayenne for a subtle heat
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prep the ham:
-
Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
-
Place the ham flat-side down in a large roasting pan or baking dish.
-
Add 1/2 cup of water or apple juice to the bottom of the pan to keep the ham moist.
-
Cover tightly with foil.
2. Bake:
-
Bake for about 12–15 minutes per pound, or until heated through (140°F internal temp).
-
For example: a 9-lb ham = approx. 2 hours.
-
-
While it bakes, make the glaze.
🍯 Make the glaze:
In a small saucepan over medium heat:
-
Combine honey, brown sugar, granulated sugar, mustard, vinegar, and spices.
-
Stir and simmer for about 3–5 minutes, until thickened slightly. Set aside.
3. Glaze & caramelize:
-
When the ham is nearly done, remove foil, brush generously with glaze, and return to oven uncovered.
-
Bake for another 20–30 minutes, basting with glaze every 10 minutes to build up the crust.
-
For an extra caramelized finish, broil for 2–3 minutes at the end — watch closely so it doesn’t burn.
🧊 Rest & serve:
-
Let ham rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
-
Spoon any extra glaze or pan juices over slices when serving.
🍽️ Serving Tips:
-
Pairs well with: scalloped potatoes, roasted veggies, cornbread, green beans, or mac & cheese.
-
Great for leftovers in sandwiches, omelets, or ham and bean soup.
