Here’s a classic, crowd-pleasing Honey Baked Ham recipe — tender, juicy ham with a sweet, caramelized crust. Perfect for holidays, Sunday dinners, or whenever you want to impress without too much effort. 🍯🍖

🍖 Homemade Honey Baked Ham (Copycat Style)

📝 Ingredients:

For the ham:

  • 1 fully cooked bone-in spiral ham (7 to 10 lbs)

  • 1/2 cup water or apple juice (for baking dish)

For the honey glaze:

  • 1/2 cup honey

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard or yellow mustard

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or orange juice

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • Optional: pinch of cayenne for a subtle heat

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep the ham:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).

  • Place the ham flat-side down in a large roasting pan or baking dish.

  • Add 1/2 cup of water or apple juice to the bottom of the pan to keep the ham moist.

  • Cover tightly with foil.

2. Bake:

  • Bake for about 12–15 minutes per pound, or until heated through (140°F internal temp).

    • For example: a 9-lb ham = approx. 2 hours.

  • While it bakes, make the glaze.

🍯 Make the glaze:

In a small saucepan over medium heat:

  1. Combine honey, brown sugar, granulated sugar, mustard, vinegar, and spices.

  2. Stir and simmer for about 3–5 minutes, until thickened slightly. Set aside.

3. Glaze & caramelize:

  • When the ham is nearly done, remove foil, brush generously with glaze, and return to oven uncovered.

  • Bake for another 20–30 minutes, basting with glaze every 10 minutes to build up the crust.

  • For an extra caramelized finish, broil for 2–3 minutes at the end — watch closely so it doesn’t burn.

🧊 Rest & serve:

  • Let ham rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing.

  • Spoon any extra glaze or pan juices over slices when serving.

🍽️ Serving Tips:

  • Pairs well with: scalloped potatoes, roasted veggies, cornbread, green beans, or mac & cheese.

  • Great for leftovers in sandwiches, omelets, or ham and bean soup.
