If you mean those tiny metal buttons/rivets on jeans—yep, you’re definitely not alone 😄
They’re called rivets, and they’re there on purpose.
Back in the late 1800s, miners kept ripping their pockets from carrying tools. Levi Strauss added copper rivets at stress points (corners of pockets, base of the fly) to keep seams from tearing. It worked so well that it became standard—and then iconic.
Why they’re still there today
- Reinforce high-stress areas
- Prevent pocket blowouts
- Mostly tradition now, but still functional
- Also a subtle brand/style marker
Fun fact:
Some rivets were removed from back pockets for a while because they scratched saddles and furniture, then later redesigned or hidden.
If you were talking about something else on jeans—like the tiny pocket, fade lines, or weird creases—say the word and I’ll break that one down too 👖✨
