Lazy Man’s peach cobbler

Posted on November 4, 2025 by Admin
Here’s a classic, foolproof Southern favorite — Lazy Man’s Peach Cobbler 🍑🥧

This version is as easy as it gets — no pie crust, no fancy equipment — just butter, batter, and peaches that magically bake into a golden, caramelized cobbler.

🧾 Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick / 115 g) butter, melted

  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk

  • 1 can (29 oz / 820 g) sliced peaches in syrup (or in juice — don’t drain!)

  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional, for topping)

  • Optional: a pinch of nutmeg for warmth

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and melt it in the oven while it preheats.

  2. Make the batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

    • Add milk and whisk until smooth.

    • (The batter will be thin — that’s perfect!)

  3. Assemble the cobbler:

    • Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the pan — do not stir!

    • Spoon the peaches and their syrup evenly over the top of the batter — again, do not stir!

    • Sprinkle cinnamon (and nutmeg, if using) over the top.

  4. Bake:

    • Bake uncovered for 40–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

    • The batter will rise up through the peaches, creating that classic cobbler texture.

  5. Cool slightly & serve:

    • Let sit 10 minutes before serving.

    • Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

🍑 Tips & Variations

  • You can use fresh or frozen peaches instead of canned. If fresh, toss sliced peaches with ½ cup sugar and let them sit 15 minutes to release juices.

  • Try with blackberries, blueberries, or cherries — same method, same magic.

  • For a richer flavor, substitute half the milk with heavy cream.

  • Want a caramelized crust? Sprinkle 2 tbsp brown sugar over the top before baking.

Would you like me to give you a cast iron skillet version or a small-batch (2-serving) version of this cobbler next?
