Cook Time: 40–45 min
Total Time: ~1 hour
🧂 Ingredients:
-
1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
-
1 lb (450g) ground pork sausage (mild or spicy)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
-
1½ cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
-
3 large eggs
-
1 cup milk (or half-and-half for creamier texture)
-
½ tsp salt
-
¼ tsp black pepper
-
¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
¼ tsp dried thyme or parsley (optional)
🍳 Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
-
Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook the Sausage:
-
In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage (and onion, if using) until browned and cooked through.
-
Break it up into crumbles. Drain excess grease.
3. Prepare the Filling:
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.
4. Assemble the Pie:
-
Spread the cooked sausage evenly in the unbaked pie crust.
-
Sprinkle shredded Monterey Jack cheese on top.
-
Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and cheese.
5. Bake:
-
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden.
-
A knife inserted in the middle should come out clean.
6. Cool & Serve:
-
Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
-
Serve warm with a side salad, fruit, or roasted veggies.
🔁 Variations:
-
Add chopped bell peppers, spinach, or mushrooms to the sausage.
-
Use a mix of Monterey Jack and cheddar or pepper jack for extra kick.
-
Make crustless by pouring everything into a greased pie dish (reduce bake time slightly).
