Posted on November 4, 2025 by Admin
Here’s a Philly Cheesesteak Casserole recipe — all the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak (tender beef, peppers, onions, and melted cheese) baked into a creamy, hearty casserole. 🧀🥩🥘

It’s perfect for weeknight dinners and family gatherings — comforting, cheesy, and loaded with flavor!

🧾 Ingredients

For the casserole:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or thinly sliced steak for a more authentic touch)

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 green bell pepper, diced

  • 1 small red bell pepper, diced (optional, for color)

  • 8 oz (225g) mushrooms, sliced (optional but delicious)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (or ½ tsp oregano + ½ tsp thyme)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the creamy base:

  • 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened

  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream or half-and-half

  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar (optional for extra cheesiness)

For topping:

  • Extra provolone or mozzarella slices to layer on top

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Cook the beef and veggies:

    • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned.

    • Drain excess grease.

    • Add onions, peppers, mushrooms, and garlic.

    • Cook 5–7 minutes until vegetables are soft.

    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  3. Prepare the creamy mixture:

    • In a bowl, whisk together cream cheese, heavy cream, and eggs until smooth.

    • Stir in 1 cup shredded cheese (provolone or mozzarella).

  4. Combine:

    • Add the cooked beef and vegetable mixture to the creamy base; mix well.

    • Pour into the prepared casserole dish.

  5. Top and bake:

    • Lay provolone or mozzarella slices over the top.

    • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden around the edges.

  6. Serve:

    • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

    • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

🥖 Serving Ideas

  • Serve as-is for a low-carb option, or spoon onto:

    • Toasted hoagie rolls

    • Garlic bread

    • Over rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Swap ground beef for thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin for authentic Philly flavor.

  • Add a touch of hot sauce or banana peppers for spice.

  • For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese and cream.

  • Want extra crunch? Sprinkle crushed toasted bread or fried onions on top before baking.
