Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Posted on October 13, 2025 by Admin
Here’s a fun and flavorful mashup: Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes! This recipe takes the cheesy, savory goodness of a Philly cheesesteak and combines it with the easy comfort of a sloppy joe — all served on a toasted bun. Perfect for family dinners, game day, or when you’re craving something quick and satisfying.

🥪 Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground sirloin)

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 green bell pepper, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp ketchup (optional, for a hint of sweetness)

  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (to help thicken)

  • ¾ cup beef broth

  • 4–6 slices provolone cheese (or use Cheez Whiz for a more classic Philly twist)

  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

  • Optional: mayo, hot peppers, or melted butter for brushing buns

🔪 Instructions:

  1. Cook the beef:

    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned and cooked through (about 5–6 minutes).

    • Drain excess grease if needed.

  2. Add veggies:

    • Stir in diced onions and green peppers. Cook until softened, about 4–5 minutes.

    • Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.

  3. Flavor it up:

    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup (if using), salt, and pepper.

  4. Make it sloppy:

    • Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir to coat.

    • Pour in the beef broth, stir well, and simmer for 2–3 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  5. Add the cheese:

    • Reduce heat to low.

    • Lay provolone slices over the meat mixture and let them melt. Stir gently to combine into a cheesy filling.

  6. Serve:

    • Spoon the hot mixture onto toasted buns.

    • Serve immediately, optionally topped with more cheese or sautéed mushrooms.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve with fries, chips, or a simple side salad.

  • Use slider buns for party-sized sandwiches.

  • Toast the buns with a bit of butter on a skillet for extra flavor.

Would you like a low-carb version (served in lettuce wraps or over baked sweet potatoes), or a vegetarian twist using mushrooms or lentils? Let me know!
