Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 25–30 min
Total Time: ~40 min
🧂 Ingredients:
-
4 pork steaks (about 1-inch thick)
-
Salt & pepper to taste
-
2 tbsp olive oil or butter
-
8 oz mushrooms, sliced (white button or cremini)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for lighter)
-
½ cup chicken broth
-
1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
-
1 tsp fresh thyme or ½ tsp dried thyme
-
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
🍳 Instructions:
1. Season & Sear Pork:
-
Pat pork steaks dry, season both sides with salt and pepper.
-
Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Add pork steaks and sear until golden brown, about 4–5 minutes per side.
-
Remove pork and set aside.
2. Cook Mushrooms & Aromatics:
-
In the same skillet, add mushrooms and cook until browned and softened (~5 minutes).
-
Add onion and garlic; cook 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
3. Make the Cream Sauce:
-
Stir in chicken broth, scraping any browned bits from the pan.
-
Add heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and thyme.
-
Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until sauce thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
4. Return Pork to Sauce:
-
Nestle pork steaks back into the skillet.
-
Spoon sauce over the pork and simmer for another 5 minutes, or until pork is cooked through (internal temp 145°F/63°C).
5. Serve:
-
Garnish with chopped parsley.
-
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles to soak up all that creamy sauce.
🔁 Variations:
-
Swap cream for coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
-
Add a splash of white wine to the sauce for extra depth.
-
Stir in spinach or peas at the end for some greens.
