🥐 Puff Pastry with Mushrooms and Ham — flaky, buttery pastry filled with savory mushrooms, tender ham, and often a touch of cheese. Perfect as an appetizer, brunch item, or elegant snack!

🍄 Puff Pastry with Mushrooms and Ham Recipe

Serves: 4–6
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed

  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (button, cremini, or your choice)

  • ½ cup diced cooked ham

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • ½ cup grated cheese (Gruyère, Swiss, or cheddar)

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: fresh herbs (thyme or parsley)

🥣 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:

    • Set to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Cook the filling:

    • Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Sauté onion and garlic for 2–3 minutes until softened.

    • Add mushrooms and cook until golden and moisture evaporates (~5 minutes).

    • Stir in diced ham, season with salt, pepper, and herbs. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  3. Prepare puff pastry:

    • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.

    • Cut into squares or rectangles (about 3–4 inches each).

  4. Assemble:

    • Spoon a small amount of mushroom and ham filling onto the center of each pastry square.

    • Sprinkle cheese on top.

    • Fold pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle and press edges with a fork to seal.

  5. Egg wash:

    • Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden, shiny finish.

  6. Bake:

    • Bake for 20–25 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.

  7. Serve:

    • Enjoy warm as an appetizer, brunch dish, or snack!

✨ Tips

  • For extra flavor, add cream cheese or béchamel sauce to the filling.

  • You can also make one large mushroom and ham tart using the same filling.

  • Make ahead: Assemble pastries and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before baking.

I can also generate an image of these puff pastries — golden, flaky, filled with mushrooms and ham, with melted cheese peeking out. Do you want me to do that?
