Classic Meatloaf (Slice)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • Optional: chopped parsley, herbs, or spices

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: 350°F (175°C).

  2. Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, onion, breadcrumbs soaked in milk, egg, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

  3. Shape: Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet.

  4. Top: Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top for glaze.

  5. Bake: 50-60 minutes, or until cooked through and internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

  6. Rest and slice: Let meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to hold its shape.


Serving suggestion:

  • Serve a thick slice with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies.

  • Or, for a sandwich, put a slice on toasted bread with mustard and pickles.
