🍖🥩 Classic Sliced Meatloaf
Serves: 6–8
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 55–60 min
Total Time: ~1 hr 15 min
🧂 Ingredients:
-
2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
-
1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 eggs
-
½ cup milk
-
2 tbsp ketchup
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
Optional: 1 tsp dried Italian herbs or parsley
For the Glaze:
-
⅓ cup ketchup
-
2 tbsp brown sugar
-
1 tbsp Dijon or yellow mustard
🔪 Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Lightly grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
2. Mix Meatloaf:
-
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, eggs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and herbs.
-
Mix gently until combined — avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
3. Shape & Place:
-
Shape mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared loaf pan (or form a loaf shape on a baking sheet).
4. Add Glaze:
-
Mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard.
-
Spread half of this glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
5. Bake:
-
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
-
About 10 minutes before done, spread the remaining glaze over the top.
6. Rest & Slice:
-
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps it hold together when sliced.
🔁 Tips for Perfect Slices:
-
Use a sharp serrated knife and cut with a gentle sawing motion.
-
Cool meatloaf slightly for cleaner slices or refrigerate leftovers before slicing.
-
Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, or in sandwiches with mustard and pickles.
