Soft Christmas Peppermints

Posted on November 1, 2025 by Admin
🎄✨ Oh yes — Soft Christmas Peppermints (also known as Cream Cheese Mints or Old-Fashioned Peppermints) are a festive, melt-in-your-mouth holiday favorite! They’re creamy, sweet, lightly minty, and super easy to make — no baking needed.

Here’s a classic and foolproof version 👇

🍬 Soft Christmas Peppermints

Ingredients (makes about 80 small mints)

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

  • 3 ½ to 4 cups powdered sugar (you may not need it all)

  • ½ tsp peppermint extract (or more to taste)

  • Food coloring (red, green, or any festive colors)

  • Optional: Granulated sugar for coating

Instructions

1. Mix the base

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.

  2. Add peppermint extract and mix well.

2. Add powdered sugar

  1. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

    • Dough should be smooth and not sticky.

    • You may need a little more or less sugar depending on humidity.

3. Color and shape

  1. Divide the dough into portions and tint each with your desired food coloring (red, green, white, etc.).

  2. Roll small balls (about ½ teaspoon each) and flatten slightly with a fork or your fingertip.

    • Or press into silicone candy molds for cute holiday shapes!

4. Coat and dry

  • (Optional) Roll each piece in a little granulated sugar to prevent sticking and add sparkle.

  • Place on parchment paper and let dry for 12–24 hours at room temperature until firm enough to handle.

5. Store

  • Store in an airtight container with wax paper between layers.

  • Keeps up to 2 weeks at room temp or 1 month in the fridge.

  • You can also freeze them for up to 3 months!

💡 Flavor Variations

  • Use vanilla, almond, or spearmint extract instead of peppermint.

  • Add a drop of red & green swirl for a candy-cane look.

  • Dip half in melted chocolate for a deluxe version! 🍫
