What Is Normal Blood Pressure for Your Age? A Clear, Updated Guide

Here’s a clear, current, doctor-approved guide to normal blood pressure by age—no outdated charts, no scare tactics.


First, an important truth

👉 Blood pressure goals don’t really change with age.
Older advice that said “higher is fine when you’re older” is no longer recommended.

Modern guidelines focus on reducing heart attack and stroke risk, not just age.


What the numbers mean

  • Systolic (top number): pressure when the heart beats
  • Diastolic (bottom number): pressure when the heart relaxes

Official blood pressure categories (adults)

Elevated 120–129 < 80
High BP – Stage 1 130–139 80–89
High BP – Stage 2 ≥ 140 ≥ 90
