These golden pancakes are a traditional German dish, often served with applesauce or sour cream.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 2–3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: applesauce or sour cream for serving

1. Prepare Potatoes

  1. Grate potatoes using a box grater or food processor.
  2. Grate the onion as well.
  3. Place potatoes and onion in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out excess moisture.

2. Make the Batter

  • In a bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, eggs, flour, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix well until it forms a thick batter.

3. Fry the Pancakes

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spoon 2–3 tbsp of batter per pancake into the skillet.
  3. Flatten slightly with a spatula.
  4. Fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  5. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

4. Serve

  • Serve hot with applesauce, sour cream, or smoked salmon for a savory twist.
