🍜 Classic Wonton Soup

Ingredients

Wontons

  • 30–40 wonton wrappers
  • ½ lb (225 g) ground pork (or shrimp, or a mix)
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp white pepper

Broth

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1–2 slices fresh ginger
  • 1 green onion, halved

Garnish

  • Chopped green onions
  • Optional: bok choy, napa cabbage, or spinach

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the filling

  • Mix pork, green onion, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper until sticky

2️⃣ Fill the wontons

  • Place 1 tsp filling in center of wrapper
  • Moisten edges with water
  • Fold into triangle, seal, then bring corners together
  • Keep covered with damp towel

3️⃣ Prepare the broth

  • Bring broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and green onion to a gentle boil
  • Simmer 5 minutes

4️⃣ Cook wontons

  • Drop wontons into simmering broth
  • Cook 3–5 minutes until they float and are cooked through

5️⃣ Serve

  • Remove ginger and onion pieces
  • Ladle soup into bowls
  • Garnish with green onions and greens
