crispy ham and cheese puff pastry squares

Posted on February 8, 2026 by Admin

Ohhh yes—crispy ham and cheese puff pastry squares are flaky, golden, and dangerously snackable. Perfect for brunch, parties, or “just one more” situations. 🧀🥓

Crispy Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Squares

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4–6 slices ham, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or Gruyère are perfect)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional but excellent)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: black pepper or everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare pastry
    • Roll out puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.
    • Cut into 9 or 12 equal squares.
  3. Assemble
    • Place squares on baking sheet.
    • (Optional) Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each square.
    • Top with ham and cheese, keeping filling centered.
  4. Finish
    • Brush edges with beaten egg.
    • Sprinkle with black pepper or seasoning if using.
  5. Bake
    • 15–20 minutes until puffed, golden, and crispy.
  6. Serve
    • Cool for a few minutes (cheese will be hot!), then enjoy.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra crispy: Bake on the lower rack for the first 5 minutes.
  • Sweet-savory twist: Add a tiny drizzle of honey before baking.
  • Make-ahead: Assemble, freeze unbaked, bake straight from frozen (add 3–5 minutes).

These disappear fast—like, blink and they’re gone.
If you want, I can give you a 2-ingredient ultra-lazy version or a party tray version that feeds a crowd.
