Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes

Posted on February 11, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic comfort food recipe: Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes — hearty, creamy, and perfect for a cozy dinner.

🍽 Ingredients (Serves 4)

For Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk (or more for creaminess)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Ground Beef and Gravy

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if needed for sautéing)

🥘 Instructions

1️⃣ Make Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15–20 min).
  2. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Set aside, keeping warm.

2️⃣ Make Ground Beef Gravy

  1. In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft and fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the beef and onions; stir to coat evenly. Cook 1–2 minutes to remove raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
  5. Add Worcestershire sauce (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer 5–10 minutes until gravy thickens.

3️⃣ Assemble the Dish

  • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates.
  • Pour ground beef and gravy over the top.
  • Optional: garnish with chopped parsley.

💡 Tips

  • For extra creamy potatoes, add a splash of cream or cream cheese.
  • Make it one-pot by cooking the ground beef and gravy while potatoes boil.
  • Leftover gravy can be stored in the fridge for 3–4 days and reheated over low heat.

If you want, I can also give a slow cooker version where the beef cooks in gravy while you mash the potatoes — perfect for hands-off weeknight comfort food.
