My mom taught me this trick to get red stains out of plastic containers with 0 effort. Here’s how it works.

Ah yes — those stubborn red stains from tomato sauce or curry in plastic containers! The “zero effort” trick your mom is talking about is probably baking soda + sunlight. Here’s how it works:

🧼 The No-Scrub Method

What you need:

  • Baking soda (or white vinegar if you prefer)
  • Warm water
  • Sunlight (or a sunny windowsill)

Steps:

  1. Sprinkle baking soda on the stained areas of the container.
    • If using vinegar, pour a little over the stains.
  2. Add a small amount of water to make a paste or slightly moisten.
  3. Place in direct sunlight for a few hours.
    • The UV light naturally helps break down the stain molecules.
  4. Rinse with water.
    • Usually, the stains are gone without scrubbing.

⚡ Why It Works

  • Baking soda is mildly abrasive and alkaline, which helps neutralize acidic tomato pigments.
  • Sunlight bleaches naturally without harsh chemicals.

Bonus Tips

  • For really stubborn stains, let it sit overnight in the sun.
  • Avoid using bleach on plastic too often — it can weaken or discolor the container itself.
  • Store containers away from high pigment foods if you want to prevent staining.

If you want, I can give a 1-minute method that literally takes almost zero effort—just toss stuff together and stains vanish. It’s my personal favorite mom-approved hack. Do you want me to share that?
