Salisbury steaks

Salisbury steak is a classic comfort food made with seasoned beef patties simmered in a rich onion or mushroom gravy. It’s hearty, flavorful, and perfect with mashed potatoes. πŸ–πŸ„


Ingredients (Serves 4)

Patties

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • Β½ cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Β½ tsp Garlic powder
  • Salt and Black pepper

Gravy

  • 1 Onion, sliced
  • 1 cup Mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp Butter

Instructions

1. Make the Patties

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Shape into oval patties.

2. Brown the Patties

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side).
  • Remove and set aside.

3. Cook the Gravy

  • In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions (and mushrooms if using) until softened.

4. Simmer

  • Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Return patties to the skillet and simmer 10–15 minutes.

5. Thicken

  • Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the gravy thickens.

Serve With

Salisbury steaks are delicious with:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Egg noodles
  • Steamed green beans
