For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

For the Onion Gravy

  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

1. Make the Patties

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce
  2. Form into oval patties

2. Cook the Patties

  • Heat a pan and sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned
  • Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking later)

3. Make the Onion Gravy

  1. In the same pan, add butter and sliced onions
  2. Cook slowly until golden and caramelized (10–15 minutes)
  3. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes
  4. Gradually add beef broth, stirring to avoid lumps
  5. Add soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce

4. Combine

  • Return patties to the pan
  • Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes until fully cooked and tender
