freshly baked bagels

Posted on April 3, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for freshly baked bagels—soft inside, slightly chewy outside, and perfect for breakfast or sandwiches 🥯✨

🥣 Ingredients (Makes 8 Bagels)

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, everything seasoning

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  • Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water; let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy
  • In a bowl, mix flour and salt
  • Add yeast mixture and oil to flour; knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic

2. First Rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel
  • Let rise 1 hour, until doubled in size

3. Shape the Bagels

  • Punch down dough and divide into 8 equal pieces
  • Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center and stretch to form a ring
  • Let shaped bagels rest 10 minutes

4. Boil the Bagels

  • Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F)
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil; reduce to simmer
  • Boil bagels 1–2 minutes per side
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain

5. Bake

  • Place bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment
  • Sprinkle with desired toppings
  • Bake 20–25 minutes until golden brown

💡 Tips

  • Boiling briefly gives bagels their signature chewy crust
  • For extra flavor, add cinnamon, raisins, or herbs to the dough
  • Best eaten fresh, but bagels freeze well—just toast to refresh

Soft, chewy, and warm from your oven—nothing beats homemade bagels 😍

I can also give you a quick 1-hour “no-boil” bagel recipe that’s faster but still soft and tasty if you want.
