Cut up a pool noodle and add some LED lights. Your backyard will glow like never before!.

That’s a fun, low-cost DIY idea—and it can look surprisingly good if you do it right.

Here’s how to make it work cleanly and safely:

Basic concept

  • Slice a pool noodle into sections (rings or short tubes).
  • Insert or wrap LED strip lights or small waterproof LED modules inside.
  • Place them along pathways, flower beds, or around a patio for a soft glow.

Tips to make it look better (not just “crafty”)

  • Go for warm white or a single color instead of flashing RGB if you want a more polished look.
  • Space them evenly—random placement can look messy.
  • Use different heights (stack or cut varying lengths) for a more designed effect.

Important practical points

  • Use outdoor-rated, waterproof LEDs (IP65 or higher)—regular indoor strips won’t last.
  • Keep connections sealed (heat-shrink tubing or waterproof connectors).
  • Avoid fully sealing LEDs inside without airflow—they can trap heat, even though LEDs run cool.
  • Secure them so they don’t roll away (a small stake or peg through the center works well).

Variations you might like

  • Line a walkway like glowing markers.
  • Cluster a few together to mimic “light blooms” in garden beds.
  • Use color-changing LEDs for parties, then switch back to white for everyday use.

It’s simple, cheap, and surprisingly effective—especially at dusk. If you want, I can sketch a quick layout for your specific yard size.
