Making rice in a slow cooker is easy and mostly hands-off! Here’s a simple method for perfect, fluffy rice:


Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (e.g., jasmine or basmati)
  • 2 cups water or broth (for extra flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Tip: For brown rice, use 2½ cups water per cup of rice and add extra cooking time.


Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice
    • Rinse under cold water until it runs clear to remove excess starch. This prevents it from getting gummy.
  2. Combine in slow cooker
    • Add rice, water/broth, salt, and butter/oil. Stir lightly.
  3. Cook
    • Low: 2–3 hours
    • High: 1–2 hours
    • Avoid lifting the lid too often; you don’t want to release steam.
  4. Check and fluff
    • Rice should be tender and liquid absorbed.
    • Use a fork to fluff before serving.

Tips for Best Results

  • Keep the 2:1 water-to-white rice ratio.
  • Butter or oil prevents sticking and adds flavor.
  • Don’t overfill your slow cooker; rice expands.
  • For extra flavor, try adding garlic, herbs, or onion to the water.
