Here’s a hearty, comforting Hamburger Potato Casserole recipe that’s easy to make and packed with flavor 🥔🍔🧀

Hamburger Potato Casserole Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite)
  • 1 cup milk (whole or low-fat)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas or mixed vegetables (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.

2. Cook the Beef

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned and fully cooked.
  • Drain excess fat.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.

3. Prepare Creamy Sauce

  • In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
  • Season lightly with salt and pepper.

4. Layer the Casserole

  • Place a layer of potato slices at the bottom of the dish.
  • Spread half of the cooked beef over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle some cheese on top.
  • Repeat layers: remaining potatoes → remaining beef → remaining cheese.
  • Pour creamy milk sauce evenly over the top.
  • Optional: sprinkle frozen peas or mixed veggies for color.

5. Bake

  • Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden and bubbly.

6. Serve

  • Let the casserole cool 5 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Tips & Variations

  • Make it lighter: Use ground turkey instead of beef, and low-fat milk or cheese.
  • Extra flavor: Add a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce or mustard to the beef.
  • Potato shortcuts: Use pre-cooked or frozen thin potato slices to save time.
  • Cheese variation: Mix cheddar and mozzarella for gooey meltiness.

✅ Result:
Rich, cheesy, and filling—this casserole combines savory beef, creamy sauce, and tender potatoes for the ultimate comfort food meal.

If you want, I can also make a 5-ingredient, quicker version that cooks entirely in the oven in 30 minutes—still cheesy and hearty.
