Here’s a classic and easy Hungarian Pork Paprikash recipe—rich, creamy, and full of paprika flavor 🍲🇭🇺

Easy Hungarian Pork Paprikash Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1.5 lbs (700g) pork shoulder or pork stew meat, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2–3 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

1. Brown the Pork

  1. Heat oil or butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add the pork cubes in batches and brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

2. Cook the Onions & Garlic

  1. In the same pan, sauté onions until soft and translucent.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds more.

3. Add Paprika

  • Remove the pan from heat briefly (to prevent paprika from burning).
  • Stir in sweet paprika and smoked paprika until fragrant.

4. Simmer the Pork

  1. Return the pork to the pan.
  2. Pour in broth, stir, and bring to a simmer.
  3. Cover and cook on low heat for 1–1.5 hours, until pork is tender.

5. Finish with Sour Cream

  • Remove the pan from heat and stir in sour cream.
  • Taste and adjust salt and pepper.

6. Serve

  • Serve hot over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Tips & Variations

  • Richer sauce: Add a splash of heavy cream along with sour cream.
  • Vegetables: Bell peppers or mushrooms can be added during simmering.
  • Spicy twist: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot paprika for heat.

✅ Result:
Tender pork in a creamy, paprika-rich sauce—a comforting Hungarian classic that’s easier than it looks!
