Here’s a classic DIY carpet cleaner recipe that many grandmas swear by — simple, natural, and especially effective on pet urine stains and odors 🧼🐾

Nana’s DIY Carpet Cleaner

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oil (like lavender or lemon for fragrance)

Instructions

  1. Pre-treat the stain
    • Blot up as much urine as possible with paper towels.
    • Sprinkle baking soda generously over the affected area.
    • Let it sit 5–10 minutes to absorb moisture and odor.
  2. Prepare the cleaning solution
    • Mix white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle.
    • Add a few drops of essential oil if desired.
  3. Apply to carpet
    • Spray the vinegar solution over the baking soda.
    • It will fizz gently, helping lift the stain and neutralize odors.
  4. Let it sit
    • Allow it to sit for 5–10 minutes, or longer for stubborn stains.
  5. Blot & dry
    • Blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel until mostly dry.
    • Allow carpet to air dry completely.

Tips for Best Results

  • Always test on a small, hidden area first to ensure no discoloration.
  • For stubborn pet odors, repeat the process once or twice.
  • Vacuum once the area is fully dry to lift the carpet fibers.
  • Works well for other spills and general stains, too.

If you want, I can also make a “supercharged version” with ingredients that neutralize even the toughest pet odors and deep stains naturally — still safe for carpets and pets.

Do you want me to do that?
