I’m embarrassed to post this, but how do I get these stains off? Tried multi-purpose cleaner, baking soda and vinegar.

No need to be embarrassed at all — this happens to everyone, and the fact you’re trying to clean it already puts you ahead 👍
I can absolutely help, but I need one key piece of info first.

I need to know:

  1. What is stained?
(Toilet bowl, sink, shower, bathtub, countertop, clothes, mattress, carpet, wall, etc.)
  2. What do the stains look like?
    • Yellow/brown?
    • Pink/orange?
    • Black/gray?
    • Chalky white?
  3. Is the surface:
    • Porcelain / ceramic
    • Plastic / fiberglass
    • Fabric
    • Stone (marble, granite)

Different stains need very different treatments — and some common fixes (like vinegar or baking soda) actually don’t work on certain stains, so you didn’t do anything wrong.

In the meantime, here’s a quick clue-based guide

  • Yellow/brown stains (especially toilet or tub):
Often hard water / iron / mineral stains → need an acid cleaner (stronger than vinegar)
  • Pink or orange stains:
Usually bacteria (Serratia) → need disinfectant + light scrubbing
  • Black stains:
Mold or mildew → needs bleach or hydrogen peroxide (depending on surface)
  • Chalky white buildup:
Limescale → vinegar helps, but needs long soaking, not scrubbing

👉 If you can, describe it or paste the original post text here (even without photos), and tell me the surface.
I’ll give you the exact product + method that works — safely, without damaging anything.
