Cabbage with eggs

Posted on January 12, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple, comforting cabbage with eggs dish — budget-friendly, nutritious, and very popular in Central & Eastern European home cooking 🥬🍳

🥬 Cabbage with Eggs (Quick Skillet Recipe)

Serves: 2–3
Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • ½ medium green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced (optional but traditional)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 4–6 eggs
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • Optional additions:
    • Paprika
    • Caraway seeds
    • Fresh parsley
    • Bacon bits or sausage

Instructions

  1. Cook the cabbage
Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add onion and sauté until soft.
Add cabbage, salt lightly, and cook 8–10 minutes, stirring, until tender and lightly golden.
  2. Season
Add black pepper and optional paprika or caraway seeds.
  3. Add eggs
    Push cabbage aside slightly.
Crack eggs directly into the pan or beat them first for a scrambled version.
  4. Cook eggs
Stir gently for soft scrambled eggs or let eggs set for a rustic style.
  5. Serve hot
    Finish with parsley if desired.

Variations

  • Hungarian style: Add sweet paprika and a spoon of sour cream
  • Hearty version: Add diced bacon or sausage before cabbage
  • Low-carb meal: Great as-is, filling and light
  • Breakfast or dinner: Works for both
