Here’s a reliable, classic homemade bread recipe that works perfectly with it. Soft inside, good rise, great for sandwiches or toast.
Basic Homemade Bread (Using Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast)
🕒 Time
About 2½–3 hours
Makes 1 loaf
Ingredients
- 3½ cups (440 g) all-purpose or bread flour
- 1 packet Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast (2¼ tsp)
- 1 cup warm water or milk (43–46°C / 110–115°F)
- 2 tbsp sugar or honey
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp oil or melted butter
Instructions
1️⃣ Activate the yeast
In a bowl, mix:
- Warm water/milk
- Sugar
- Yeast
Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
👉 If it doesn’t foam, the yeast is dead or liquid was too hot.
2️⃣ Make the dough
Add:
- Oil/butter
- Salt
Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
3️⃣ Knead
- Knead 8–10 minutes by hand or 6 minutes in mixer
- Dough should be smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky (not sticky)
4️⃣ First rise
- Place dough in a greased bowl
- Cover and let rise 1–1½ hours, until doubled
5️⃣ Shape
- Punch down dough
- Shape into a loaf
- Place in greased loaf pan
6️⃣ Second rise
- Cover and rise 30–45 minutes
- Dough should rise about 1 inch above the pan
7️⃣ Bake
- Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F
- Bake 30–35 minutes
- Top should be golden and sound hollow when tapped
8️⃣ Finish
- Brush top with butter
- Cool at least 20 minutes before slicing
Tips for Best Results
- Active dry yeast must be activated (unlike instant yeast)
- Liquids hotter than 46°C (115°F) can kill yeast
- For softer bread, replace water with milk
- For richer bread, add 1 egg
