🥘 Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes
🧾 Ingredients:
For the Beef & Gravy:
-
1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
-
1 small onion, diced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tbsp flour
-
2 cups beef broth (low sodium if possible)
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for extra depth)
-
½ tsp onion powder
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
Salt to taste
-
Optional: ½ tsp thyme or parsley
For the Mashed Potatoes:
-
2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and cubed
-
4 tbsp butter
-
½ cup milk or heavy cream
-
Salt & pepper to taste
🔥 Instructions:
1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:
-
Boil potatoes in salted water for 15–20 minutes or until fork-tender.
-
Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt & pepper. Adjust to desired creaminess.
2. Cook the Ground Beef:
-
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked.
-
Drain excess grease if needed.
-
Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
3. Make the Gravy:
-
Sprinkle the flour over the meat and stir to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes (to eliminate raw flour taste).
-
Slowly stir in beef broth, then add Worcestershire, soy sauce (if using), and seasonings.
-
Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened into a rich gravy.
-
Taste and adjust salt or pepper.
4. Serve:
-
Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates or into bowls.
-
Top generously with beef and gravy.
-
Optional: Garnish with fresh chopped parsley or a drizzle of melted butter.
🥄 Variations:
-
Add mushrooms to the gravy for a richer flavor.
-
Mix in frozen peas or corn for a full one-skillet meal.
-
Use ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
