Posted on October 11, 2025 by Admin
Here’s a classic comfort food recipe for Ground Beef and Gravy over Mashed Potatoes — hearty, savory, and super simple. It’s like a shortcut to Salisbury steak, perfect for a cozy, satisfying meal.

🥘 Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes

🧾 Ingredients:

For the Beef & Gravy:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium if possible)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for extra depth)

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • Salt to taste

  • Optional: ½ tsp thyme or parsley

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and cubed

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • ½ cup milk or heavy cream

  • Salt & pepper to taste

🔥 Instructions:

1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:

  • Boil potatoes in salted water for 15–20 minutes or until fork-tender.

  • Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt & pepper. Adjust to desired creaminess.

2. Cook the Ground Beef:

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked.

  • Drain excess grease if needed.

  • Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.

3. Make the Gravy:

  • Sprinkle the flour over the meat and stir to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes (to eliminate raw flour taste).

  • Slowly stir in beef broth, then add Worcestershire, soy sauce (if using), and seasonings.

  • Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened into a rich gravy.

  • Taste and adjust salt or pepper.

4. Serve:

  • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates or into bowls.

  • Top generously with beef and gravy.

  • Optional: Garnish with fresh chopped parsley or a drizzle of melted butter.

🥄 Variations:

  • Add mushrooms to the gravy for a richer flavor.

  • Mix in frozen peas or corn for a full one-skillet meal.

  • Use ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.

Would you like this made in the slow cooker, dairy-free, or turned into a shepherd’s pie? I can help with that too!
