Can you send a photo of it, or at least describe what it looks like (size, material, color, where it was placed)?
Since you mentioned she brought it when you moved in, my first guesses—depending on what it looks like—would be things like:
- a humidifier / diffuser
- a salt lamp
- a decorative air freshener
- a spiritual/energy item
- or some kind of home utility tool
